"Allergy - from Basic Immunology to Clinical Care"
GAČLEN is devoting a substantial proportion of its energy and
funding towards the training and education of undergraduate and
postgraduate scientists.
In close collaboration with EAACI, GAČLEN organises 2 to 3 training
courses each year. It is a key way for GAČLEN to grow the allergy
community within Europe and to break down boundaries between
trainees in different countries.
The IOA actively supports this educational program, making it
possible for some junior applicants to attend this Summer School
and contributing to the success of these meetings. (Persons up to
the age of 35 years are eligible to apply for a Travel Grant)
In Prague the lectures discussed topics related to allergy,
asthma, rhinitis, atopic dermatitis and immunotherapy. Basic
overviews as well as new data were discussed. The break out- and
interactive sessions where a great opportunity to meet the
authorities. Groups of five to ten participants were invited to
present their data and discuss it with the experts. Lectures
usually were alternating with group discussions to give the
participants the opportunity to ask questions in smaller
groups.
Sunday consisted of an introduction on epidemiology and the
fundamentals of inflammation and allergy. On Monday the lectures
focused more on allergy. The rest of the week topics presented
involved clinical presentations and treatment of allergy diseases
like asthma, dermatitis and rhinitis.
