Asthma and Allergy: bridging the gap between
basic and clinical science.
GAČLEN is devoting a substantial proportion of its energies
and funding towards the training and education of undergraduate and
postgraduate scientists.
In close collaboration with EAACI, GAČLEN organises 2
training courses each year during the summer. These summer courses
are a key vehicle for GAČLEN as they seek to grow the allergy
community within Europe and to break down boundaries between
trainees in different countries.
The IOA actively supports this educational program, making it
possible for some junior applicants to attend this Summer School
and contributing to the success of these meetings. (Persons up to
the age of 35 years are eligible to apply for a Travel Grant)
Approximately 100 participants from almost all European
countries attended the GAČLEN Summer School in Rotterdam. All
students had the opportunity to listen to over 30 lectures given by
well respected European scientists and physicians regarding the
origin, immunopathology, diagnosis, monitoring, treatment and
prevention of asthma. Beside the main lectures and interactive
sessions, scheduled workshops including a theoretical and practical
approach to issues such as experimentation with animal models,
asthma immunopathology and diagnosis took place at the Erasmus
University Hospital of Rotterdam.
