Basophil or Polymorphonuclear Basophil:
"leukocyte" characterized by large granulations
(grains) which have a pronounced affinity for basic dyes (high pH).
They contain histamine
and many other mediators of allergy (such as mast cells).
Betulacea: a family of plants and shrubs
(petaless flowers) with seeds grouped in catkins
and deciduous leaves. A few examples: birch, alder, hornbeam, hazel
tree and almond tree.
Bioluminescence: a property of luciferin
(substance found in certain bacteria, mollusks and
especially the firefly) which becomes luminescent thanks to
luciferase. This property is
used for various assay tests, in particular in the Enhanced
Chemiluminescence assay (ECL
test) for labelling the Ag-IgE reaction.
Bronchodilator: a medicinal product with
the property of being able to dilate the bronchi thus
increasing bronchial diameter. Used in particular in the treatment
of asthma.
Bronchospasm: spasmodic contraction of the
bronchi which results in a temporary
narrowing of the bronchial diameter and thus respiratory
impairment. It is one of the
symptoms of bronchial asthma.
