What is food poisoning?

Sometimes symptoms that one experiences when eating a certain food are caused by toxic substances contained in the food. A common example occurs when the food is contaminated with bacteria that produce bacterial toxins. Everyone eating a portion of that food will develop the same symptoms due to the bacterial toxins and not the food itself.

Tip: in food poisoning, in contrast to food allergy and food intolerance, it is the food itself that is the problem and the symptoms of food poisoning appear in all people who have eaten that food.
