Many more people suffer from food allergy today than in the past. Partly, this is caused by the fact that many new foods, particularly exotic foods, have been introduced into our diet over the last few decades: fruits like kiwi or avocado, cashew, pecan and Brazil nuts, sesame seeds, a whole range of new spices and condiments rarely encountered in the western diets a few decades ago are now common food ingredients. These newcomers and even new ways of cooking are very frequently a cause of food allergy.
