Recognize early signs of anaphylaxis
As mentioned above, it is essential to be able to recognize
immediately any signs suggesting the development of anaphylaxis in
order to be able to prevent the progression of symptoms to a severe
and dangerous stage. Bellow you can find a list with the earliest
symptoms of an anaphylactic attack
- Itching and redness of the palms, soles or of the skin in other
regions (sometimes generalized).
- Intense redness (flush) of the skin
- Hives (urticaria) which can extend fast to cover the whole body
and sometimes merge to give rise to big red, swollen plaques
- Tingling and itching of the lips, mouth, palate and throat
- Swelling of the lips, tongue or throat
Tip: in some people anaphylactic attacks can
start with itch in bizarre places such as genital
Other signs that can predict the development of anaphylactic attack
can be:
- Abdominal cramps and nausea
- Dry cough beginning without an obvious cause
- Palpitations
- Dizziness or sensation of light headedness
Tip: skin symptoms and swelling of the
mouth, throat and larynx are more frequent in anaphylactic
reactions caused by foods or other ingested allergens while heart
and blood vessel symptoms are more often involved in anaphylactic
reactions caused by injected allergens.
