Avoiding allergens is the oldest allergy management strategy and
remains an essential strategy in all allergic diseases. Avoiding
food allergens, although difficult, is usually an achievable
goal.
With inhaled allergens, complete allergen avoidance is extremely
difficult but with care you can significantly reduce exposure
enough to improve your symptoms and make your drug treatment more
effective. However, this requires total commitment; just going
“half way” will probably do little good.
Remember that avoidance of inhaled allergens won’t lead to a
complete resolution of symptoms but nonetheless it should be a
significant part of your overall management plan.
